A buyer sends a picture of a bright silver anchor and asks for “the same zinc finish.” That may be a useful visual reference, but it is not a technical coating specification. For Canco Fasteners and an American importer, the correct question is what protection and appearance are required for the intended application.
Canco's published capability information includes zinc plating, hot-dip galvanizing and other finishes, some coordinated with approved finishing partners. The method and acceptance criteria must be confirmed for each fastener and order.
Separate appearance from performance
A brighter zinc deposit is not automatically thicker, more protective or more appropriate. Reflectivity can be affected by surface preparation, bath chemistry, passivation and subsequent treatment. A duller finish may meet an agreed specification while a bright part fails thickness or adhesion requirements.
For a commercial RFQ, use a written coating standard and measurable acceptance criteria. The visual reference can remain an additional cosmetic requirement rather than being the sole inspection method.
Specify the coating system fully
Depending on the item, purchase documents may need the base material, coating type, thickness or class, passivation, supplemental sealant, corrosion-resistance requirement and any limits related to functional dimensions. For threaded fasteners, specify how the finish interacts with the thread fit and gauging requirements.
Standards such as ISO 4042 may be relevant to electroplated fasteners when properly specified. The correct standard and edition depend on the product, market and contract—not merely on the destination country.
Consider embrittlement and the fastener grade
High-strength steel fasteners can present additional considerations with electroplating and hydrogen embrittlement. Appropriate material and processing controls should be specified by the responsible engineering team and coating specialist. Do not copy a low-strength anchor plating method onto a high-strength bolt without technical review.
For aggressive environments, a different finish or stainless material may be more suitable, but suitability depends on exposure, design and applicable engineering requirements.
Protect the finish during export
Even a correctly coated fastener can show staining or abrasion after poor handling. Define carton construction, protective lining where useful, moisture-management measures and storage expectations. Appearance complaints should be compared with the agreed acceptance standard and incoming condition.
What to ask Canco before approving samples
Share your drawing, material grade, proposed coating standard and thickness, expected service environment, thread specification and any corrosion-test expectations. Ask for a representative finished sample and the applicable inspection method. Canco can then confirm the feasible finishing route for your part.

Quick buyer questions
Is shinier zinc always better? No; specification compliance is the correct measure.
Is five microns appropriate for every fastener? No; it depends on the application and agreed requirements.
Should coating be checked after assembly? Where assembly affects functional dimensions or finish integrity, the check plan should address that risk.
