Common questions

Before you specify

Rock bolt, soil nail or self-drilling hollow bar — what's the difference?

Rock bolts reinforce rock in tunnels and cuttings. Soil nails are grouted into drilled holes to stabilise slopes and excavation faces in soil. A self-drilling hollow bar drills and grouts in one operation, so it's used where a drilled hole would collapse before a bar could go in. Ground anchor bars are typically tensioned to hold back retaining walls or resist uplift. See the Geotechnical & Ground Support catalogue

Can you supply to the project specification?

Yes. Send the tender or consultant specification — we manufacture to IS, RDSO, DIN, EN or ASTM as specified, and supply the documentation approval engineers ask for. See Quality & Compliance

Which coating for long design-life structures?

Hot-dip galvanising is the usual choice for exposed steelwork and ground-support bars. For high-strength bolts, a zinc-flake coating is often preferred because it avoids the hydrogen embrittlement risk that galvanising or electroplating can carry. For grouted bars, the grout cover is part of the protection too — share your designer's durability requirement and we'll match the finish.
